There is a free software that you can download that can disable and enable backup by just a click of a button. It’s called Backup Disabler by TwelvePin.

It’s described by the developer as:

The balance between backing up your latest saved game or text messages and waiting an hour for your phone to sync is a delicate one. Now, you can easily sync without waiting for the backups, and just as easily re-enable them whenever you like.

With the new GPS receiver and 3G radio not to mention the applications from the AppStore, your iPhone 3G is bound to have a shorter battery life compared to the first gen iPhone.

Here are some tips to improve battery life

Disable 3G data radio

Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Enable 3G and toggle “OFF”

You’ll be surfing at slower speeds than if you had the 3G radio enabled, but it’s still faster than the original iPhone running iPhone 1.1.4 OS.

Force-quit applications that may be running in the background

Try resetting the iPhone

Hold down the Power/Sleep button located along the top-edge of the iPhone until you see the “Slide to Power OFF” prompt. Switch the slider to the right and let the iPhone shutdown. Press the Power button to turn on the iPhone.

According to some reports, the launch of the Apple’s 3G iPhone will be on June 9 during the keynote presentation at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) conference.

Rumor has it that no less than Steve Jobs will be introducing the successor to the heralded iPhone on the keynote stage. Apple will also be adopting subsidized pricing schedules for the next-generation iPhone in some countries. This means that certain carriers can offer discounts and subsidies on the iPhone in return for a contract-commitment (or lock-in period) from the customer.

Performing a “restore” on the iPhone does not delete the data from the device. Even Apple’s refurbishing procedure apparently doesn’t erase all personal data from the iPhone. The latest report comes from a Oregon State Police Detective where a detective was able to retrieve some seriously sensitive personal data from a recently purchased refurbished iPhone using an iPhone forensics toolkit developed by Jonathan Zdziarski. As of this posting, there isn’t any memory formatting method available yet.
